Plot: Mohalla Assi is based on a novel ‘Kashi Ka Assi’ written by living legend ‘Kashi Nath Singh’ and director Chandraprakash Dwivedi framed it into the reel.
Story is all about Kashi’s (now Varanasi) Assi Ghat of Ganges River and the area near Ghat is called as ‘Mohalla Assi’, where Sunny Deol as Pandey ji in the film is an orthodox person who never wants to let his culture/Sanskriti die but he alone can’t do anything and just seeing the foreigners are spoiling their culture and Indians are letting them do just for the money. He tries to make people understand about old Indian culture and decency but no one cares and only his family survives.
Screenplay: Screenplay is as bhos#*ka as the story, Chandraprakash Dwivedi screenplay seems completely fails to deliver the message, he wants to convey as he tried to cover many parts of 1990’s era but couldn’t focus on any of them. Don’t know why he tried to pull Babri Mazjid and Hindu-Muslim issue if he couldn’t have focused it up to a level.
Performances: Sunny Deol is centre of the story and the biggest miscast character and due to weak story and screenplay you won’t be able to focus on the performances whether there are actors like Ravi Kishan, Sakshi Tanwar, Saurabh Shukla & Mukesh Tiwari remains on the screen.
Dialogues: If we can count one thing which is positive about ‘Mohalla Assi’ is, then we can pick the dialogues only. Dialogues are very heavy and in pure hindi but normal audience do not understand this level Hindi as dialogues also due to rest of the things dialogues gets dipped.
Direction: Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s direction seems directionless and poor even if we pick any of the areas like story, screenplay etc..
Music: There is no song in the film, even background score is just a formality on the name of music.
Final Verdict: As final verdict ‘Mohalla Assi’ is a complete failure and don’t watch it!
