Karan Johar has produced his debut Dharmatic venture on the Netflix with Kiara Advani starrer ‘Guilty’. The film is based on the #MeToo movement that came across the globe in 2018-19. But director Ruchi Narain failed to impress the audience with such a solid concept due to her weak direction and storytelling.
Plus Points:
- Based on a fresh and live concept of #MeToo
- Kiara Advani’s act but it lacks due to confusing writing of her character
- Taher Shabbir’s solid performance as Danish
Minus Points:
- Poor Direction
- Weak and complicated storytelling
- Half-baked characters writing
Plot: Based on a rape case, this crime-thriller story revolves around three major characters Vijay Paratap Singh aka VJ (Gurfateh Singh Pirzada), Nanki (Kiara Advani) & Tanu Kumar (Akansha Ranjan). All are classmates in a reputed college and on Valentine’s Party Tanu Kumar and VJ got intimate. Tanu lodges a complaint against VJ, who is Nanki’’s Boyfriend too, but VJ defends that he is innocent. Nanki also helps to prove him innocent and goes beyond the boundaries. Now the whole story revolves around ‘Who is Guilty’? But the drama goes through such silly turns that it seems childish. Involvement of political angle, courtroom drama and media seem very fake and unreal as well. The only person who could have made it better is ‘Ruchi Narain’ the director. And, she completely fails to connect the audience.
Guilty makes you feel guilty to watch it for 1.50 hrs. In the end, I would say Netflix content is getting weak to weaker day by day as far as Indian films/series are concerned. Netflix should really put some serious checks to maintain its viewers.
